Eli and I took a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Lacrosse, Wisconsin this past summer. I took this photo towards the end of our stay and it is still one of my most "liked" photos on Instagram. I think that has a lot to do with Our Lady of Guadalupe's story and how it speaks to so many of us.
Before our pilgrimage, I had no devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe and only knew the basics of her story. After spending a whole day at the Shrine, I had a deep appreciation for her. Learning more about her story helped me see that Our Lady’s goal is to always draw all her children into the body of Christ in an intimate way. In the instance of her apparitions in Guadalupe, she showed herself to an ordinary man, Juan Diego, a man who she knew had great faith. Her message was one of motherly love. She wanted him and the people in Guadalupe to know they were not alone, that she, their mother, was always with them, praying for them, and bringing them closer to her son.
Is this not our story too? Our Lady is always interceding for us, loving us unconditionally, just like any mother would. I find so much comfort in her.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!
