Capital Brewing Co.
Less of a review today but more of a special occasion post! Today and tomorrow are the last day to vote for your favourite Australian beers in the @gabsfestival hottest 100! I’ve put a link to vote in my bio if you’re interested in choosing your favourite brews of the year!
I’m happy to say that @capitalbrewing will have some beers in the mix this year! The Rockhopper being one of them! In my mind if I do a write up I get to drink one, so here we are! 😉
A big West Coast IPA inspired by Capital’s head brewer’s San Diego heritage, the Rockhopper is a year round favourite at Capital Brewing. On the nose you get big flavours of passionfruit and a tropical hit. The head retention is moderate with the head creamy and fluffy.
Refreshing carbonation, a medium body and an even balance between bitterness and fruitiness mean that the Rockhopper is a beer you can session for a while quite happily (even at 6.1%). Once the Rockhopper warms up a little bit in the glass I get notes of mango and melon joining the passionfruit. Tropical salad vibes! The beer finishes on a slightly dry note which I enjoy as you can really enjoy the hoppy flavours without sweetness overload (Citra, Chinook, Centennial and Amarillo). A dangerous beer this one has snuck up on me on a number of occasions now!
Who have you voted for this year? And what do you think of the Rockhopper, have you tried it? I love IPA’s so it’s always fun to get recommendations! •
