ok, the #fionaapple feels are about to drop right now!
one of the things i love most about being a performer is the ability to visit back upon previous versions of yourself and then share these parts with people you meet in the present. no one artist had a greater part in speaking to my teenage obstinate self than Fiona. she was able to reach me and allow me to feel reassured in (what i thought was) my singly strangeness. she made me feel not so alone growing up in South Carolina.
our final show of this spring tour i ginned up the courage to ask @christhile to accompany me on Fiona’s tune “A Mistake” during our taping of @livefromhereapm
I have never felt such a surge of andrenaline and butterflies as i felt on that stage. i wasnt ~performer~ me, i was 16 again, riding around my small town in my best friend’s car singing along with Fiona into the night. Chris, thank you for sharing this moment with me. this is truly the transformative power of art. thank u fiona for writing all those songs. u are a treasure! link to the full performance in my bio! #sixteenagain ✨🍎✨🍎 cc: @fionaappleig@npr@nprmusic
