“GONE” 🖤 Below is a short story of how this artwork came about.
Prints available on @kafful.shop .
I created this artwork 6 years ago, and I’m surprised that it triggers the same emotions whenever I chance on it on my computer.
Many years back, when I was still in High School, I lost a very dear friend of mine to Leukemia. At the time I never really dealt with it. I suppose I wasn’t mature enough to understand; to connect the fact that I wasn’t going to see him again.
At his funeral I watched everyone cry. I just internalized it.
Years later, after university, I moved to the capital Accra to start my illustration career. I had worked and just bought my first Wacom tablet.
That night, in my little apartment, I felt very alone, lost and unsure of what the future would be. And then I thought of what my classmates might be doing, and then memories of him came streaming in. I thought of what he might have become if he was still alive. I’m not sure what his dreams were, but he loved Mathematics.
That night, lost in those thoughts, I made this artwork and titled it GONE.
May our departed loved ones Rest In Peace.
Thank you @dopeblackart for digging out this artwork and reposting. This is nostalgic for me. 🙏🏾🖤
